The paths of abstraction, 1957-1978

After the Second World War, and in the setting of a Francoist Spain, a new form of abstract art was born, different from that of the interwar avant-gardes, questioning the form and material of painting.

This exhibition offers a careful selection of the Museum of Abstract Art of Cuenca, which in the words of Alfred H. Barr, founder and first director of MoMA, is the most beautiful small museum in the world.

A selection of spanish and international abstract artists

La Pedrera exhibits pieces by such renowned spanish artists as Antonio Saura, Rafael Canogar, Pablo Palazuelo, Manolo Millares, José Guerrero, Antoni Tàpies or Josep Guinovart who dialogue with works by other international abstraction artists such as Jackson Pollock, Alberto Burri, Mark Rothko, Willem De Kooning, Hans Hartung, Jean Dubuffet, Helen Frankenthaler or Alexander Calder.
